Drops Asia Chapter
This workshop forms part of the DROPS Focal Program and provides practical guidance on applying the DROPS Recommended Practice for the Safe Use of Tools & Equipment at Height. The session focuses on identifying dropped object risks associated with tools at height and implementing effective, industry-aligned controls to prevent incidents.
The workshop is designed to support organisations in strengthening frontline competence and consistency in dropped object prevention, reinforcing the DROPS philosophy that nothing drops.
Who Should Attend
Technicians, supervisors, planners and HSE personnel involved in planning, supervising or executing work at height where tools and portable equipment are used or positioned above ground level.
Workshop Overview
The session introduces the DROPS approach to managing tools at height and translates recommended practice into practical actions that can be applied before and during work. Participants will examine common failure points that lead to dropped tools and learn how to assess, select and verify appropriate controls in line with the DROPS Focal Program expectations.
Key topics include:
Defining tools at height and dropped object risk thresholds
Common causal factors associated with dropped tools and equipment
Applying the hierarchy of controls to tools at height
Selection and correct use of certified lanyards and attachment points
Managing higher-risk scenarios involving heavy and powered tools
Tool storage, transport, inspection and control requirements
Examples and scenarios are used throughout the session to reinforce correct behaviours and highlight non-compliant practices.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Identify tools and activities that present a dropped object risk at height
Apply DROPS recommended controls for securing tools and equipment
Recognise compliant versus non-compliant tools, lanyards and attachment methods
Integrate tools-at-height controls into pre-task planning and work execution
This workshop supports the DROPS Focal Program by helping organisations embed best practice, reduce exposure to dropped object hazards and improve overall safety performance.
Workshop Completion & Certification
Attendance at the workshop automatically enrols participants into a dedicated e-learning module aligned with the DROPS Focal Program. This module allows participants to:
Recap the key concepts covered during the workshop
Download the official course and reference materials
Reinforce learning through structured content and examples
As part of the e-learning module, participants are required to complete a short knowledge check designed to test understanding of the DROPS recommended practice for tools at height.
Upon successful completion of the exam, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion, providing formal recognition of their competence and supporting organisational training and assurance requirements..
